As a freelance photographer, I often find inspiration in unexpected places. One such moment occurred after a lifestyle portrait session on September 6th, 2018, when I spontaneously decided to wander San Francisco's iconic Union Square with my Leica camera in hand, trading the early evening traffic congestion for the serendipity of street photography.
Union Square proved to be a photographer's paradise, teeming with life and character at every turn. From the hustle and bustle of the Apple store to the eclectic mix of people congregating in the square, each scene presented a unique opportunity to capture and explore the heart of San Francisco.
Little did I know that the images I captured that day would serve as a visual time capsule, documenting a moment in San Francisco's history that would soon be obscured by a worldwide pandemic and rapid deterioration within the city. Fast forward to late 2021, and the Union Square I once roamed had undergone a dramatic transformation, reflecting the ever-evolving nature of urban landscapes.
Despite the changes, San Francisco's spirit remained palpable, woven into the fabric of its streets and the souls of its inhabitants. As a freelance photographer, preserving the beauty and authenticity of the places I capture can be a noble pursuit, ensuring that future generations can appreciate the rich tapestry of our cities' histories.
Through my work, I aim to inspire others to see the world through a different lens and appreciate the beauty surrounding us, even amid dramatic change. Whether it's a bustling city square or a quiet corner street, there is always a story waiting to be told through photography.
As I reflect on my many photo journeys throughout the years in San Francisco, I am reminded of the power of photography, which captures moments in time and evokes emotions that transcend words. Documenting the world around us is a privilege, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my perspective with others through my work whenever possible.
